Deadline Extended: GSO Announcement on Work Permits and Sponsorship Visas

    In November 2025, GSO announced that Syrians who are working in Lebanon need to obtain a legal residency based on sponsorship or work permit.

    Affected Syrians must obtain either a new sponsorship or work permit based legal residency before 30 June 2026.

    Be alert when withdrawing cash assistance

      During times of crisis, some people pretending to be humanitarian workers, bank employees, or claiming to work for UNHCR or WFP may offer to support you at withdrawal points (ATMs and MTO). They may then ask you for a fee in exchange for their assistance.

      Always remember, humanitarian assistance is free of charge.

      You should not pay any fees to access your assistance. If anyone asks you for money, sexual favours, or any favour or service in exchange for assistance, please report it immediately.

            Message from Lebanese Army on Dropped Flyers

              Lebanese Army:

              Amidst Israeli attacks on various Lebanese regions, an Israeli jet dropped leaflets over Beirut areas (NLR), containing QR codes for WhatsApp and Facebook, linking them to Unit 504, the Israeli military’s human intelligence unit responsible for recruiting agents.

              The Lebanese Army Command warns against scanning the codes and clicking on these links, citing legal and security risks, as well as the potential for hacking mobile phones and accessing personal data.

                Important information for refugees considering return to Syria during the current situation

                  📣This message is shared through UNHCR’s WhatsApp communication📣

                  UNHCR is responding to the ongoing security situation in Lebanon and assisting many refugees and Lebanese community members affected by recent hostilities.

                  As the situation is extremely difficult for many families, the decision to stay in Lebanon, relocate within the country, or return to Syria is entirely yours.

                  Because of the situation, UNHCR is facing delays and difficulty processing and delivering the Repatriation Form and return cash assistance in Lebanon UNHCR-IOM organized return movements scheduled in March are also postponed due to the security situation.

                  However, you should continue to make your own decisions on return.

                  UNHCR will continue to monitor closely and will share updates if conditions improve.

                  Staff are available to provide information and guidance to help you make the safest decision.
