Help for refugees and asylum-seekers in Türkiye

UNHCR is aware of information circulating on various social media and the news about a recent data leak containing personal information of foreigners, including those of Syrian refugees. The Ministry of Interior and PMM have confirmed that the current leak contains data dating back to September 2022, where the data of Turkish citizens and foreigners was made public.

UNHCR understands that this leak may raise concerns or anxiety within your communities, and UNHCR continues closely monitoring the situation and any risks posed to refugees in Türkiye.

In light of these circumstances:

  • Be vigilant against fraudsters who might attempt to access your personal data or to engage you through deceptive phone calls, text messages, emails, and social media sites.
  • Be cautious when any unknown person contacts you unexpectedly on your phone or online and requests that you share or confirm your personal information including your name, ID number, address, bank information among others.
  • Monitor your e-Devlet account regularly to check for any irregular data use.

If you come across anything suspicious or believe that your data is at risk, please report it immediately to PDMM in your province or to PMM using the below hotlines:

  • General Emergency Hotline 112
  • Foreigners Communication Center (YIMER) 157 line
