Birth Registration

A birth should be registered within 3 months of the date of birth at the Registrar of Births and Deaths in the district in which the birth took place.

How?

Provide information to the District Registrar located nearest to where child was born within 3 months of birth of child.

Documents required

  • ID of informant (Valid passport or Certified Copy)
  • Letter/card from Hospital Birth certificate of parents
  • If parents are married, marriage certificate

Late registration

Late registration refers to after 3 months of birth but before 1 year. Contact the District Registrar located nearest to where child was born.

Registration after 1 Year

Information can be obtained from Civil Registry, Registrar General’s Department, Registration House or from the District Registrar located nearest to where child was born.

What if you do not have ID?

A Certificate of Nationality and Identity from your Embassy is accepted.

English as the official language

English is the official language of Trinidad and Tobago, all documents must be officially translated into English.
