Call for applications – opportunity for Syrian refugees to study a Master’s degree at a Japanese University

Through the Japanese Initiative for the Future of Syrian Refugees (JISR), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is welcoming applications for post graduate studies in Japan for the academic year 2024-2025.

🔍To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be Syrian living in Lebanon and known to UNHCR,
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or be in the final year of an undergraduate program,
  • Be between 22 and 39 years of age,
  • Be proficient in English (written and oral communication).

We remind that due to reduced funding, UNHCR is not providing winter cash assistance this year.

How to protect your children from the dangers of celebratory shooting

Every year children fall victim to celebratory shooting in Lebanon. To keep them safe, educate your children about the related dangers and teach them to go inside and stay away from windows and balconies when they hear shooting.  

We recommend you watch this short video by UNICEF with your children to raise their awareness about celebratory shooting and how to keep safe.

Are you looking to pursue an undergraduate degree in Lebanon, and do you meet the following criteria?

  • You are a refugee/displaced student residing in Lebanon,
  • You hold a valid and legal Lebanese residency permit,
  • You have been enrolled in a public or private high school in Lebanon for at least the last three years of your secondary education,
  • You have a cumulative average of 13.5/20 (Grades 10 and 11), and
  • You are not registered at any university and have not completed studies at any university.

If so, we invite you to apply for the USAID Higher Education Scholarship Program (HES) to study at the American University of Beirut (AUB) or the Lebanese American University (LAU) in Lebanon. The deadline to apply is 15 February 2024.
