Introduction on WFP’s operations in Jordan
- The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. In Jordan, WFP provides food assistance to the syrian refugees and other nationalities through the cash-based transfer programme (e-Card and mobile money).
- The vulnerability of families is regularly reviewed to direct the available funds to the families most in need. As a result, many families are being removed from WFP assistance for targeting reasons and many families are included based on the assessment of the family’s situation.
- All WFP beneficiaries in host communities (outside the camps) receive their monthly entitlements on their mobile wallets or e-Cards during the first week of each month.
- All refugees of other nationalities receive WFP assistance through e-Cards in addition to a small portion of Syrian refugees.
- The vast majority of Syrian refugees receive WFP assistance through mobile money using a single mobile wallet number belongs to one member of the same family.
What is the verification process?
- WFP is conducting a verification process in Jordan for all refugees receiving assistance through e-Cards and mobile money in the community. The aim is to ensure that assistance reaches the right beneficiaries.
- Every person who receives WFP assistance will receive a text message (SMS) stating where and when the verification will take place.
- starting from 2019, the WFP verification process takes place at certain pre-selected Jordan Post branches in Jordan.
What should I do to validate my e-Card and where should I go?
- The verification process for refugees who continued to receive assistance after the re-targeting exercise is usually conducted during the last quarter of every year during the months September or October and last for 2 or 3 months, more details are being announced through the official channels. Each family receives an SMS from WFP inviting you to visit a Jordan Post branch and conduct your e-Card or Mobile money verification process. The SMS will specify the verification period and information on where to find information on the nearest Jordan Post branch.
- It is very important to update your phone number at the UNHCR, to ensure that correct information is communicated with you in time.
- You can visit any of the Jordan Post branches with Verification Stations (leaflets with branch locations are available at WFP’s Facebook page – “Food Assistance for Registered Refugees in Jordan”).
- Before approaching a Jordan Post branch. you must verify the following:
- You must take WFP card with you to swipe it on the device for verification.
- You must take the phone device with you that is linked to the e-wallet, as you must give the employee the wallet number and a one-time password will be sent to the phone, and you must provide the employee with the this one-time password.
- Your file number in the UNHCR asylum-seeking certificate is the same as the one displayed on the e-Card.
- The phone number linked with the e-wallet is active and not disconnected.
- Any family member (18 years and above) registered in the same file (UNHCR asylum-seeking certificate) can go and carry out the verification on behalf of his/her family.
- Note: In case of not approaching the post office to conduct the verification during the mentioned period, you will be removed from WFP assistance.
Can I go to any Jordan Post branch for the verification process?
- You can only visit designated pre-selected Jordan Post branches. Not all branches will be confirmed in this verification process.
- Leaflets displaying the addresses/locations of the confirmed Jordan Post branches are available on WFP’s Facebook page (“Food Assistance for Registered Refugees in Jordan”).
- You can also contact WFP by calling the helpline or visiting any of WFP helpdesks.
My family has been removed from WFP assistance; can I verify my e-card? And If I did, is there any chance to be re-included for assistance?
- The verification process is ONLY for the families that are currently receiving assistance from WFP.
- If you approach the Jordan Post branches for the purpose of verification, the verification process will fail, and this will not be considered as a re-inclusion for assistance.
After completing the verification and receiving the receipt, what should I do?
- If the verification process is successful, there is nothing else you should do. Please make sure you check the validity period of your verification.
- If the verification process fails, you can check the error message on the receipt and contact WFP for further details by calling the helpline or visiting any of WFP helpdesks.
I have updated my mobile wallet number, what shall I do now?
- You must update the wallet number through WFP mobile money link or contact WFP by calling the helpline or visiting one of WFP Helpdesks that are available in all governorates.
- Wait for an SMS from WFP asking you to conduct the verification on the new wallet number.
Me (or one of my relatives) cannot go to the validation due to one of the following reasons: disabilities, elderly or the registered family members in the UNHCR file are all minors (less than 18 years old).
- You should submit a verification home visit request by calling the WFP helpline or visiting one of WFP Helpdesks to provide your case details, updated number and address.
- WFP will organize mobile validation teams for validations through home visits only for the cases that are unable to approach the selected post offices.
Please remember that if your family was not verified, you will be removed from the WFP assistance.
