Update on U.S. Resettlement Cases
The U.S. government has suspended its Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) starting January 27 2025 and until further notice. This included Resettlement and the Welcome Corps private sponsorship program.
- This suspension will affect both approved refugee travel and case processing. There will be no interviews or decisions on cases while the suspension is upheld, and there will be no refugee travel after midnight on January 26.
- All refugees of all nationalities globally are impacted by the suspension order.
UNHCR is reviewing the situation and awaiting guidance from the U.S. State Department. We will share updates as soon as we have more information.
In these critical times, UNHCR urges caution against scams and/or fraudulent attempts or offers targeting refugees. REMEMBER:
- No one can help you depart the country more quickly or expedite your case. Do not trust such offers.
- Do not trust any messages related to the status of your resettlement case (including Welcome Corps) or your travel unless officially communicated by U.S. authorities, Resettlement Support Center (RSC) MENA/ IOM.
- UNHCR will never ask you to pay for services under any circumstances. UNHCR does not charge money or any kind of fee at any stage of the resettlement process
- In case of any doubt, please call the UNHCR Helpline on 064008000 to report fraud.
