Temporary Protection in the EU

Temporary Protection for people from Ukraine has been extended until
4 March 2027.

  • You can apply for Temporary Protection until this date
  • If you already have it, your status is automatically extended

Pension Verification Requirement for Ukrainian Refugees

Due to recent legislative changes in Ukraine, all Ukrainian pensioners residing abroad must complete a verification procedure in order to continue receiving pension payments.

How to Complete Verification

You can complete the procedure through one of the following modalities:

  1. Diia Application

Via Diia Signature on the PFU web portal or the PFU mobile app ( video guide is available here)

  1. Videoconference Verification via the PFU Portal

You may request a video call via the PFU portal or by calling the hotline: 0800 503 753.
Calls are usually scheduled within 10–30 days and conducted via Google Meet, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Viber, or Zoom.
You will be asked to present your original passport/ID and pension certificate during the call.

  1. Verification at a Ukrainian Consulate

Visit the nearest Ukrainian consulate to confirm your identity and place of residence. Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Slovenia can be found:

You will receive a certificate of identity, which you can upload via the PFU portal to complete verification.

  1. In-Person Verification in Ukraine

If you are currently in Ukraine, you can visit any PFU service centre.
Please note: Due to the suspension of thousands of pensions in January 2026, long queues are currently reported nationwide.

Additional Requirement for Pensioners from Temporarily Occupied Territories (ToTs)

If you are from the ToTs, you must confirm that you are not receiving a pension from the Russian Federation, by doing one of the following:

  • Selecting the relevant declaration box in your PFU online account
  • Stating this explicitly during videoconference verification
  • Sending a written declaration by email or postal mail to the PFU

After completing all steps, please verify that your PFU personal account reflects the correct date of verification and declaration. You may check this online or by contacting the PFU hotline (0800 503 753).

Psycho-social support ⬇

You can receive free psycho-social support from the following organizations specialized to provide support to asylum seekers and refugees:

 Emma Institute – Center for Victims of Violence can assist you, if you think you might be a victim of Gender Based Violence (GBV), or if you would like to receive Mental Health or Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).

Slovene Philanthropy can assist you with orientation information, with finding accommodation and support with integration.

SOS Helpline for women and children survivors of violence runs a shelter for women and children, victims of violence, a hotline, and self-help groups for women experiencing violence:

DNK – Association for nonviolent communication provides programs for people experiencing violence, as well as for perpetrators of violence:

 

If you live outside Ljubljana, we suggest you to contact your local Center for Social Work. They will refer you to a local organization providing psycho-social or other support.

Support on trafficking in human beings ⬇

Caritas Slovenia offers crisis accommodation and safe accommodation to victims of trafficking in human beings.

Društvo Ključ – Center for fight against Trafficking in Human Beings if you think you might be a victim of trafficking, Društvo Ključ can provide accommodation, psychosocial counselling and  reintegration:

Slovene Philanthropy provides information and counselling on risks of trafficking in human beings to migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.

Integration support ⬇

If you have questions regarding employment, education, healthcare, finding accommodation or access to services, as well as other integration issues, you can turn to Slovenska Filantropija – Association for Promotion of Volunteering.

Other organizations, like Slovenian Red Cross or Caritas Slovenia, might be able to help with integration issues in your region.

Refugee Led Organizations and Community Based Organizations

In Slovenia, there are several organizations led by Ukrainian refugees or the Ukrainian community which offer support and services to refugees or offer space to connect with other Ukrainians in Slovenia. These are:

Društvo Ukrajincev v Sloveniji Razom organizes cultural events and offers psychosocial support for refugees.

Kulturno Društvo Ljubljana-Kyiiv organizes cultural events and offers Slovenian language courses to refugees.

Zavod Rokavička, organizes a Sunday school for Ukrainian children in Slovenia and connects Ukrainian refugees, who are teachers.

Zavod Dress for Success Maribor helps refugee women with labor integration, organizes workshops for successful employment and gifts formal clothes for job interviews.
