UNHCR Galati Field office closure

The UNHCR will close its Galati office on December 31, 2024, but will continue to support refugees and asylum seekers in the Region. The UNHCR Constanta Field Office will take over services in Galati County, maintaining protection and assistance through the UNHCR service hub in Galati and partnerships with local organizations like FONSS/Fundatia Inima de Copil and CNRR. Additionally, the Constanta Field Office will cover Braila, Buzau, Bacau, and Tulcea counties.

In 2025, the UNHCR will keep collaboration with local authorities and partners to enhance protection coordination in five counties: Galati, Braila, Tulcea, Buzau, and Bacau. They will focus on information sharing and protection monitoring, while also providing various forms of assistance through their own programs and those of their partners.

To stay connected with the refugee community, UNHCR will use its national hotline, hold focus group discussions, and keep feedback and complaint mechanisms active. Important updates will also be shared quickly on UNHCR’s Telegram channel and the Help webpage.

Despite this closure, UNHCR remains fully committed to assisting refugees and asylum seekers in Galați and surrounding counties.  Support in Galați County will continue through the Service Hub at Strada Movilei nr. 2-8, in collaboration with partners like FONSS/Fundatia Inimă de Copil and CNRR The UNHCR Field Office in Constanta will oversee Galati, Braila, Buzau, Bacau, and Tulcea counties, while Vaslui county will fall under the responsibility of the UNHCR Field Office in Suceava.
