UNHCR will close its Constanța field office on August 31, 2025, however, we will continue to support forcibly displaced persons in the region. The UNHCR Country Office in Bucharest will take over services across Romania, maintaining protection and assistance in partnerships with national and local authorities, as well as with organizations like, CNRR, World Vision and other relevant partners including Refugee-led Organizations.
UNHCR will utilize its national hotline, conduct focus group discussions, and maintain active feedback and complaint mechanisms to keep the communication with the refugees and other forcibly displaced people living in Romania. Important updates will also be promptly shared on UNHCR’s Telegram channel and Help webpage.

Why is UNHCR’S Office in Constanța closing ?
Due to recent global events, funding for humanitarian organizations, including UNHCR, has significantly decreased. This reduction affects our ability to provide assistance, protection, and solutions. Consequently, we must reorganize and adapt our operations globally. As part of this restructuring, the Constanța Field Office will close on 31 August 2025. This decision was not made lightly, and we assure you that your protection and safety remain our priority. We understand this news may cause anxiety and raise questions.
