Access to Education for Returnees from Lebanon to Syria
If you are considering returning to Syria and have questions about how your or your children’s education will be recognized, this page is for you.
Education remains a key concern for many refugee families planning their return to Syria. This page supports you in understanding the different education pathways, the documentation needed, and what to expect.
In Lebanon, Syrian students have been enrolled across various formal and non-formal education systems. These include:
- Public basic education (Grades 1 to 9)
- Secondary education (Grades 10 to 12)
- Vocational education and training (TVET)
- Tertiary (university-level) education
- Non-formal programs (Accelerated Learning, Basic Literacy and Numeracy, etc.)
When returning to Syria, your child’s ability to re-enroll in school or higher education depends on their profile and whether you have official school documents such as transcripts or diplomas.
👉 If you do not have these documents, don’t worry. Upon arrival in Syria, you can visit your local education authorities to explore alternative solutions or placement options.
This section includes:
- Information on how to prepare for returning to school in Syria
- Guidance for different types of student profiles (primary, secondary, vocational, university, or non-formal learners)
- Links to equivalency services and education authorities in Syria
- Answers to frequently asked questions on academic documentation and placement
