Border Crossing Update – North Lebanon / Akkar

Due to recent weather conditions and the current situation in the North, the Arida border crossing in Akkar is temporarily closed.

At present, only the official border crossings at Masnaa and Qaa are open.

Communities are strongly advised not to use unofficial crossing points in Akkar and the North, as these routes are dangerous. Risks include flooding, difficult terrain, the presence of landmines, which may cause serious injury or loss of life and exploitation and abuse.

Before considering travel or return, please carefully assess safety conditions, including:

  • Road and weather conditions
  • Security risks along the route
  • Availability of safe and official crossing points

Movements should only take place when it is safe to do so, and through official border crossings.

Furthermore, please note that the UNHCR/IOM-supported Organized Voluntary Return Programme is currently available. The programme provides, among other assistance, transportation for return to Syria through the official crossing point at Masnaa, which is open and operational at the time of return movements. Subject to availability and scheduling, you may request to be considered for this programme.
