Cash Assistance Through Mobile Wallets

Why should I enroll in the mobile wallet?

You are the owner of the mobile wallet. You do not have to cash out your assistance during a specific period. You decide how and when you want to spend and cash out your money.

Through the mobile wallet, you can carry out a lot of electronic cash transactions, including:

  • Deposit funds into a mobile wallet account
  • Withdraw money from the mobile wallet account on your smartphone
  • Send and transfer money using the mobile wallet account on your smartphone, regardless of the type of phone and line
  • Pay bills and pay off loans using the mobile wallet account on your smartphone
  • Save any amount in your account without fearing to lose them by the end of the month

NB: you will not be requested to pay any fee to register, open, or run a mobile wallet. If anyone approaches you for such payments, please refuse to pay and inform UNHCR immediately.

Why is UNHCR switching the cash assistance to mobile wallets instead of ATM card/iris scanning?

UNHCR is enrolling refugees in this project in order to switch the transfer of any cash assistance to be received through the mobile wallet instead of the ATM card or iris scan. This allows refugees to have more control over the assistance they receive, be able to better manage that money, and be included in the national financial systems in Jordan.

Is my data privacy preserved?

Yes. UNHCR and its partners for this project have strict agreements on the data privacy. Any data you provide to the service provider and UNHCR to register for a mobile wallet will remain confidential. You will be asked to provide your consent to the terms and conditions of this service. You have the right to receive a full explanation on this consent.

Will I maintain the same amount of monthly cash assistance?

Yes, you will continue to receive the same amount you are currently entitled for, even in a more convenient manner.

Will I still be able to withdraw the money in cash if I wanted to?

Yes, you will be able to continue withdrawing your assistance. You will also be able to cash-out from a wider range of touchpoints, such as any of your services provider shops, or any of your service provider’s agent or any ATM machine.

You can also issue a debit plastic card (Master Card) linked to your mobile wallet. When you use this plastic card, you can cash out on all ATMs in Jordan.

Will I lose my assistance if I close my wallet or change my wallet number?

  • When you close your wallet or change your wallet number it is recommended to clear available balance. UNHCR cannot help you retrieve any balance in your old wallet.
  • Avoid this change (if possible) during the last week of the month to ensure that it does not delay your receipt of the cash assistance.
  • Call the Helpline and select the option “change wallet number” to receive advice on procedures to update UNHCR with your wallet number.
  • UNHCR can opt to transfer cash assistance (to eligible recipients) through other transfer mechanisms such as iris authentication or prepaid ATM cards.
