UNHCR Office for Italy, the Holy See, Malta and San Marino

The UNHCR Office for Italy, the Holy See, Malta and San Marino supports these countries in maintaining protection systems which comply with international standards and advocates for the rights of refugees, asylum-seekers, stateless persons and other persons of concern. UNHCR staff in Rome and in various locations across Italy assist refugees and asylum-seekers at arrival points, facilitate access to international protection procedures and monitor the quality of the asylum system. UNHCR and partner staff also work together with local authorities and civil society actors to support refugees and stateless persons to integrate into Italian communities and to ensure that they are engaged in refugee and local communities through a wide range of activities.
