Important Information for Those Considering Applying for Asylum in Georgia

As of October 27, 2025 Individuals wishing to apply for asylum in Georgia, obtain obtain or submit documentation from/to the Migration Department should now approach the Martkopi Reception Center at the following location – https://maps.app.goo.gl/6hCT67yjxXgcrEjD9

On 1 October 2025 a new Law on International Protection has entered into force which governs refugee status and subsidiary protection – საერთაშორისო დაცვის შესახებ | სსიპ ”საქართველოს საკანონმდებლო მაცნე”

The new law introduces several changes to the asylum procedure. Among them are differentiated processing tracks based on criteria set out in the law, shorter appeal timeframes, and changes to access to legal aid and protection from removal—depending on which specific procedure an application is assigned to. As with any new legislation, there may be some uncertainty and adjustment challenges in the initial period following its entry into force. Therefore, if you are considering applying for asylum in Georgia, we encourage you to consider this new development.
