UNHCR and partners provide education services for refugees in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char camps free of charge.

Here are some frequently asked questions about education:

My child is not in school. How can I enroll them?

There are 3 possible options depending on the age and academic background of your child:

  1. If your child is between 3 and 5 years old, they can enroll in early childhood education. You can approach the nearest Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre and meet with an ECD facilitator or school supervisor to enroll.
  2. If your child is aged 5 years old, they are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten (KG). You can approach the nearest Kindergarten or Learning Centre and meet with teachers or the school supervisor to enroll.
  3. If your child is between 6 and 14 years old, they are eligible for Grades 1 and 2, or for accelerated learning programs for primary education. You can approach the nearest Learning Centre and meet with teachers or the school supervisor to enroll.

If you are living in Kutupalong Registered Camp or Nayapara Registered Camp, you should meet with assistant schoolteachers or headteachers.

My child has finished primary school. How can they attend secondary school?

Please meet with the school supervisor/Head teacher/assistant teacher of the Learning centre or school for secondary education nearest to you. You can get more information from the Learning Centre where your child completed their primary school.

What kind of education is available for adolescents and youth (between 15 to 30 years old)?

There are 3 possible options depending on the age and previous academic background:

  1. Adolescent clubs/centers: Youth/adolescents between the age of 15 and 30 years without any previous academic skills are eligible to enroll and receive prevocational education on basic literacy, functional numeracy and life skills for the course duration of 6 months. For each intake, up to 70 adolescents will be admitted to the learning centre. This in turn will help them to be eligible for further vocational training, which may enable them to engage in income generating activities that will be helpful for their future.
  2. LiT (Language, Image and Analytical Thinking): Youth/adolescents (Aged 18-30 years) with basic knowledge of reading and writing are eligible to enroll for this course. The learner will receive education for six months on acquiring language skills focusing mainly on English and enhancing his/her imaginative thinking and analytical skills. After successfully completing this upskilling program, the learner will be eligible to enroll for the Bridging program.
  3. Bridging Programme: Youth/adolescents who have passed the LiT successfully and those who have previously completed up to grade 7 and are aged 15-30 years old will be eligible to enroll for this higher education program comprising of different subject areas. This 18-month course is a bridging program that paves the pathway for the learners to potentially pursue their university-level education in the future.
