📢 Opportunity for Young Africans

The African Union offers a 12-month volunteer programme (AU Youth Volunteer Corps) where young Africans can work in another African country and gain professional experience.

You will receive training and practical work experience.
You will also receive a monthly allowance, health insurance, a return flight ticket, and a completion allowance.

You can apply if you:

  • Are 18–35 years old
  • Are a citizen of an African Union country (refugees and asylum seekers can apply if they still have this citizenship)
  • Have completed education after secondary school
  • Have at least 1 year of volunteering and 1 year of work experience
  • Speak at least one AU language (e.g. English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, Kiswahili)
  • Are available for 12 months and willing to move to another African country

📚Scholarship Opportunity: Online Master’s at AUB

We are pleased to inform you that the call, through the Mastercard Foundation, a number of scholarships are available to study online a postgraduate degree with the University of Beirut.

The programme offers fully funded scholarships for refugees and asylum seekers from the African continent to study online for Fall 2026-2027. The application deadline is 18th May 2026.

The eligibility criteria are:

  • Be refugees or asylum seekers with African nationality;
  • 35 years or younger;
  • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study;
  • Have a minimum B2 level in English.

The scholarship is available for a variety of Master’s degrees online:  

  • Master’s in Engineering Management;
  • Master’s in Computer in Education;
  • Master’s in Business Administration; 
  • Master in Nursing Administration and Management​;
  • ​Executive Master in Healthcare Leadership​.

You will need to prove your English level with a test by 30th June 2026. If you do not have a certification in English, please reach out to UNHCR for vouchers for Duolingo language testing.

UNHCR-IOM Support for Voluntary Return

UNHCR and IOM Algeria are collaborating to jointly support Syrian nationals who wish to voluntarily return to Syria.Further updates will be shared on the website shortly.

When planning your return, you are encouraged to consult updated information on conditions and available services in Syria.

  • Syria is Home platform provides general information to help you make informed decisions about return. It includes details on relevant processes, available assistance, and an interactive map of services across Syria.
  • UNHCR Syria’s HELP website  contains updated information on protection services and assistance available to returnees in different areas of Syria.

We would like to remind you that the document is automatically renewed on its expiration date. No prior appointment is required for this purpose.


Advice on Cash-Based Intervention (CBI)

UNHCR uses cash distributions to provide protection, assistance, and services to forcibly displaced persons in vulnerable situation. Cash-based interventions (CBIs) enable individuals to meet their most urgent needs, support livelihoods, and, where relevant, facilitate voluntary return. CBIs also contribute to protection outcomes by reducing risks and preserving households’ capacity to meet essential expenditures.

Due to limited resources, CBIs are available only to individuals who meet specific eligibility criteria.

  • For the current CBI round (December 2025-January 2026), cash assistance is limited to recognised refugees only. Eligible individuals are being contacted directly and invited to attend the UNHCR office by appointment.
  • For the next CBI round (tentatively planned for March 2026), UNHCR will target the most vulnerable individuals, regardless of their status – refugees and asylum seekers. To better assess vulnerabilities and personal circumstances, UNHCR partners conducted a phone-based survey in December 2025. Individuals eligible for cash assistance will be contacted directly in March 2026.

Please note that UNHCR is NOT able to confirm individual eligibility in advance for the next CBI round. To allow the office to focus on implementing the programme efficiently, we kindly request that individuals refrain from calling or visiting the office to inquire about eligibility or timeline.
