How can I get registered with UNHCR?

Registration of asylum seekers in Libya is processed by UNHCR. The Libyan authorities only authorise UNHCR to register persons from specific nationalities.

You can call our Registration hotline at 📞 0911633466, and the Registration staff will advise you on procedures for registration. If you are eligible, you will be issued with an appointment date to meet with UNHCR staff in Tripoli or another location where registration will be conducted. During your registration interview, UNHCR will collect information about you, including your name, date of birth, place of origin, and the reason why you left your country of origin.

What should I bring to my registration interview?

All your family members (spouses, children or other close family members who are dependants) should be with you on the day of registration.

You should bring all the original documents you have, including:

  • Passport
  • National ID card
  • Birth certificate
  • Work permit
  • Certificates in relation to your marital status
  • Education records
  • UNHCR or government refugee or asylum seeker certificates from other countries
  • Any other official documents about your identity

You can also bring other documents if you think they are related to the reason why you left your country of origin.

Please note that even if you have no documents, you can still register with UNHCR.
