UNHCR and partners provide case management assistance to support children who are unaccompanied or separated from traditional caregivers or who are suffering from violence, exploitation, and neglect. UNHCR works with partners, including government partners, to assist each individual child protection case by providing legal assistance, safety and security, psychological and health interventions as needed.
If you are a newly arrived unaccompanied child in need of services and protection in Jakarta and surrounding areas, please approach the UNHCR Reception Center on Monday to Friday 9 – 5 pm or send your inquiry to [email protected].
Some support for unaccompanied or separated children includes:
Residential Home for Women and Girls – Jakarta
CWS is currently running a residential home for women and girls, including newly arriving unaccompanied or separated girls and women at risk who do not have financial and social resources.
Supervised Semi-Independent Living – Jakarta
Supervised Semi-Independent Living Care Arrangement (SILCA) is an available option for older unaccompanied and separated refugee children in Jakarta. Under this program, which is managed by CWS, the child is provided a rented room in Jakarta where he/she is supervised by an adult refugee guardian appointed by CWS, as well as by CWS social workers and child protection staff members.
Foster Care Arrangement – country-wide
Unaccompanied Children (under 14 years of age) may be placed in a foster care arrangement. Foster families will be identified by CWS, in consultation with UNHCR Child Protection Staff.
Family Tracing
Family tracing may be initiated by UNHCR child protection staff for children with missing family members. UNHCR will refer the request for tracing to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Indonesia or the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) who then will review the case and determine whether tracing can be initiated.
