UNHCR does not have partner hospitals in China. Hospitals in China are open to refugees and asylum-seekers. You do not need a referral to see a specialist
In case of medical emergencies, please go to the Emergency Ward at your nearest public hospital or call 120 for an ambulance.
Can UNHCR help me with healthcare?
UNHCR will determine if it can support refugees‘ treatment on a case-by-case basis, subject to budget availability. Due to budget limitations, UNHCR focuses on treatments that save lives or stop diseases from becoming deadly or leading to disability.
UNHCR does not provide reimbursement for:
– Mild diseases or vague symptoms, such as headache, body weakness, diarrhea, constipation, joint pain, or common cold, if you are a healthy adult;
– Late stages of diseases, where it’s hard to survive, like late-stage cancer;
– Cosmetic procedures, like scar removal.
Due to limited resources, UNHCR China regrets that it cannot cover medical treatments for asylum- seekers. However, UNHCR may consider supporting life-saving care and in rare cases, medical care to prevent diseases from becoming deadly or causing disabilities in children.
Only treatments by public hospitals will be considered for reimbursement.

HIV/AIDS
For information on HIV testing, post-exposure prophylaxis and antiretroviral treatment, please consult your local CDC (疾控中心)or Beijing Ditan Hospital (北京地坛医院) at 010-84322250.
There are free antiretroviral drugs and self-paying drugs. Depending on your condition, the hospital might provide free drugs to you. Write to [email protected] if you have difficulty communicating with your doctor in Chinese and need us to help. Please indicate when you are going to see the doctor in your email, so that we can stand by.
