It has been brought to our attention that a false and misleading message is widely circulating on WhatsApp with a weblink claiming that UNHCR and the World Bank are distributing cash to Afghans in Iran.

Please be informed that UNHCR has a defined eligibility criteria for cash assistance on case-by-case basis.
If you receive any message on WhatsApp or Telegram with a weblink, DO NOT open the link and DO NOT share the message any further.
Such schemes may seek to extract money and, in some cases, personal details from the recipients of such correspondence.
UNHCR office in Iran does not offer assistance through WhatsApp or Telegram messages. We communicate our messages through UNHCR Iran’s official Instagram account and UNHCR Iran help webpage.
Extreme caution should be exercised in relation to any suspicious communication as financial loss and identity theft could result from the offer of money or personal information to those issuing such fraudulent correspondence.
