Returning to Ukraine

This page is designed for people fleeing from Ukraine to Hungary.

If you are seeking asylum from another country, visit our page about asylum.

UNHCR continues to advocate for Ukrainian refugees’ continued legal stay in host countries and is not promoting return at this time.

The Ukraine is Home platform was designed to provide Ukrainians with accurate and up-to-date information and help make decisions that are well informed, fully voluntary, and with an awareness of options and rights for continued stay, particularly as the war continues.

The platform provides refugees, returnees, and internally displaced Ukrainians with information about their rights and continued stay in host countries or communities, as well as available support in Ukraine:

  • Information on temporary protection status and visits to Ukraine for 20+ European countries
  • Available support for returnees from abroad and internally displaced Ukrainians
  • Cash assistance for vulnerable returnees from abroad and IDP returnees
  • Multi-service protection centres run by UNHCR and partners
  • National compensation programme for damaged or destroyed housing
  • Employment and business opportunities in Ukraine
  • A toll-free hotline for questions on continued stay abroad and return to Ukraine available from any European country
