Belgium has opted for a multi-disciplinary approach as part of its efforts to combat human trafficking. In addition to suppressing the perpetrators, special attention is also given to victims. Specialized reception centers for human trafficking as well as a specific (legal stay) procedure has been put in place for victims of human trafficking.
The specialized reception centers for human trafficking in Belgium are PAG-ASA in Brussels, Payoke in Antwerp and Sürya in Liège. They are overseen by Myria (see more on General services page). The centres and multifaceted teams that run them provide accommodation (if necessary), psychological and medical aid, administrative support and legal assistance.
When the victim is a child, a specific referral will be made to a reception centre (Esperanto) specifically designed to take in and take care of presumed child victims of human trafficking.
