About UNHCR in the UK
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is the UN agency mandated to protect people forced to flee their homes and find safety in other countries. The UNHCR office in the UK works to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless people in the UK through the provision of guidance, training and support to the authorities and others, and the promotion of international standards and best practice in legislation, policy, and procedures.
In the UK, the UK Government (the Home Office) is the authority responsible for the Refugee Status Determination process.
