Adding family members

Important
Please remember that you may use this service only if your family members are not yet registered with UNHCR.

Step 1: Log in and go to your My Family / Group Page

Step 2: Click on add family member and enter their details

Required Information
Fields marked with a red asterisk (*) are required and cannot be left blank.

1. Personal Information

  • First name and last name using Latin characters only (e.g., a, b, c).*
  • Full name: Enter their full name in your own language.*
  • Date of Birth: As shown in their official identity document.*
  • Where you are from: Select the country from the list of options. If they have more than one nationality, choose the one from the country they cannot return to.*
  • Sex: Select from the options provided.*
  • National Number: Enter the number shown on their national ID or civil registration document.
  • Marital Status: Select their current status.*

When you finish, click “Next.” You can also save your progress and continue later.

  • Address and arrival date: 
    • If your family member has the same home-country address, current address in Thailand, and arrival date in Thailand as you, simply select “yes” for all three questions. If any of these details differ from yours, you should enter the correct information. If not, you can fill the necessary information as explained below:
  • Where are you from? ➡️ Previous address in your home country
    • Country (pre-filled based on where you are from)*
    • State*
    • District.
  • Where do you live now?➡️ Current address
    • Country (pre-filled based on where you are from)*
    • Province*
    • District*
    • Subdistrict*
    • Full address.
  • Arrival Date in Thailand

Click “Next” to continue, or “Previous” to go back. You can save and continue later.

  • Review Your Details: A summary of their personal and address information will appear. Carefully check that all details are correct.
    • To make changes, select “Edit personal details” or “Edit address/arrival”.
    • When everything is correct, click “Next.”
  • Contact information:
    • E-mail address: Automatically filled and cannot be changed.
    • Registered phone number: The number used when creating your account.
    • Preferred language: Select from the available options.

Click “Next” to continue, or “Previous” to go back. You can save and continue later.

  • Their specific needs: Indicate if your family members have specific needs, such as disability, medical conditions, or advance pregnancy.

Click “Next” to continue.

2. Photo

Take or upload a recent photo of your family member (passport-style).

Photo Guidance

While taking your photo, make sure:

  • Your full face is visible and well-lit.
  • Your eyes open and looking at the camera.
  • Not hats or glasses (headscarves are allowed).
  • Photo is clear and not blurry.
  • Plain background.

Tip: If the camera is not working, check your phone settings to allow camera access.

You can retake or upload a new photo if needed. You may skip this step temporarily but must submit a photo before completing your application.

3. Documents

You are encouraged to upload identity documents such as:

Documents may include:

  • Passport
  • National ID
  • Family booklet
  • Arrest warrant / court order
  • Birth certificate
  • Other supporting documents

If your family member does not have these documents, you may skip this step.

Document Guidance

Upload clear photos of your documents:

  • All corners visible,
  • No glare or flash,
  • Not blurry,
  • JPG or PNG format, up to 4MB.

For each document:

  • Select the type (e.g. passport, birth certificate)
  • Enter the document number, issue date, and expiry date (if available)

Review and submit the documents when done. You can return to this section later in “My Documents”.

Step 3: Select your preferred registration location

Please choose Bangkok as your preferred location since it is the only location we currently provide registration services.

Step 4: Review your application

Before submitting, review all sections to ensure the information is complete and accurate.

  • Profile: Their personal details, contact details, and photograph.  
  • Documents: Uploaded documents.

If all information is correct, select “My information is complete and ready to submit.”

If you identify an error or missing information, return to the relevant section to correct or add the required details.

Note: After submission, you will not be able to edit your information or add family members unless you submit a new request.

Step 5: Submit your application and request an appointment

  • Click “submit my application”,
  • You will receive a temporary UNHCR ID number (also visible on the Home page),
  • Your status will show as “pending registration” until your registration process with UNHCR is completed,
  • Your appointment request will be visible on the page,
  • You can check appointment status in “My Appointments”,
  • UNHCR will contact you using your preferred method once your appointment is confirmed.

Decreased funding for UNHCR has significantly reduced the number of individuals that UNHCR can register each month. Due to these limitations and the large volume of requests received, most individuals will have to wait for up to two years before being registered.

Getting started

How long does it take to fill in the application on My Services portal? 
It takes about 10 minutes per person.

Why should I add my family members?
Adding your family members helps keep your family together during the registration process. Everyone you add must come to the appointment with you.

Who can I add as a family members?
You can add:

  • Your spouse
  • New births and your children under 18 years of age

What if a family member joins me later or leaves before the interview?
If someone joins or leaves after submission, you cannot update your application. Please tell UNHCR during your interview.

Can I add someone who is not here yet?
No. Only include family members who are currently with you. You can ask UNHCR during your interview how to register those who arrive later.

Adding Documents

Can I use expired or damaged documents?
Yes. Expired or damaged documents are still helpful. Bring the original with you to your interview.

What if my family member does not have any documents?
You can submit your request. Explain the situation during your interview and bring any supporting information you have.

Can I upload a photo of a document instead of a scan?
Yes, but make sure the photo is clear. If needed, you can show the document during your interview.

How are my documents and photos protected?
Your information is stored securely and only used by authorized UNHCR staff to process your application, in line with UNHCR’s data protection rules.

Application Progress

Can I see or change the information I submitted for my family member?
Before you submit, you can review and edit your details. After submission, only their contact details can be changed. If anything else is incorrect, inform UNHCR during your interview.

How do I update my specific needs?
You can update this information before submission. After submission, please inform UNHCR during your interview.

Can I change the appointment location later?
No. Our registration services are available only in Bangkok at this time.

Registration of My Family Member

What happens after I submit the application for my family member?
This means you have submitted your family member and they are waiting for UNHCR to review and verify their information.

What happens after I submit my application for my family member?
UNHCR will review your information and schedule an appointment.

How long does it take to get an appointment to add my family member?
Please note that the decreased funding for UNHCR has significantly reduced the number of individuals that UNHCR can register each month. Due to these limitations and the large volume of requests received, once you submit your application through My Services portal you may have to wait for up to two years before being registered.

How will I know when my appointment is booked?
You will receive a message through your preferred communication method. The appointment details will also appear under “Confirmed Appointments” in the My services portal.

What happens when my children turn 18?
You manage your child’s account until they turn 18.  At 18, they must create their own account.
