Will I automatically get an RSD interview after registration?
No. Not all registered asylum-seekers will be invited for an RSD interview. UNHCR assesses each case individually to decide whether an interview is necessary.
How will I be contacted for my RSD interview?
If your case requires an RSD interview, UNHCR will call you to inform you of the date and time. If you change your phone number or email, please notify UNHCR immediately by email or phone.
How will my RSD interview be held?
Most RSD interviews are conducted remotely—either online or by phone. In exceptional cases, you may be asked to attend the interview in person at the UNHCR office. When your appointment is scheduled, you will receive full instructions. Please check your phone and email regularly.
What happens during the RSD interview?
You will be asked about your personal background, reasons for leaving your country, and why you fear returning. The interview may take several hours and will be conducted in a language you understand.
Is the information I share confidential?
Yes. All information shared during the RSD process is kept strictly confidential and will not be shared with your country of origin or any third party without your consent.
Can I submit additional documents after registration?
Yes. You may send supporting documents by email to UNHCR ([email protected]). Include your case number and contact details.
Do I need a lawyer for my RSD process?
It is your right and choice to seek legal support. You can find a list of legal aid providers who assist asylum seekers in Thailand on this page. These providers are independent from UNHCR, and it is up to them to decide whether they can assist you.
What if I am not recognized as a refugee?
If your application is rejected, you will receive a written explanation. You have the right to appeal the decision.
When should I submit my appeal?
You must submit your appeal within 30 days from the date you receive the rejection decision.
How should I submit my appeal?
Send your appeal and supporting documents by email only to: [email protected] Your email subject line should include your case number and your intention to submit an appeal, for example: “Appeal request of 815-25-XXXXX”. UNHCR does not accept appeals submitted in person at the office.
Is there a fee for the RSD process?
No. The RSD process is completely free. Do not pay anyone for interviews or decisions.
