Refugees and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection, as well as their family members, have the right to health care provided by the National Health Service (SNS) under the same conditions as nationals.
Asylum seekers, refugees and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection are exempted from any fees to access the National Health Service.
You can seek medical help at:
- Health center (Centro de Saúde) in your area of residence (if you need specialist help, you will then be referred to a specialist appointment either at the Centro de Saúde or at the hospital).
- In case of an emergency, you can call the national emergency number 112 or go to the emergency unit of the nearest hospital.
If you need translation during your appointment, you can book translation through the Telephone Translation Service provided by the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA). For more information on this service visit the section “Do you need translation support”.
