About UNHCR in Norway

All information and services provided by UNHCR and our partners are FREE OF CHARGE for temporary protection beneficiaries, asylum-seekers, refugees, beneficiaries of subsidiary protection and stateless persons.

UNHCR works to protect the rights and support better futures for temporary protection beneficiaries, asylum-seekers, refugees and people at risk of statelessness around the world.

In Norway, UNHCR supports the national authorities in carrying out its duties in line with international and European standards. UNHCR does not register asylum-seekers in Norway. The asylum procedure in Norway is under the responsibility of the Norwegian Police, the Directorate of Immigration and the Immigration Appeals Board.

UNHCR does not have a physical office in Norway, but the UNHCR’s Representation for the Nordic and Baltic Countries, which is based in Stockholm (Sweden), is responsible for Norway.
