If you are a child under 18 entering Norway alone and applying for asylum, you are an unaccompanied minor asylum-seeker. The asylum process is almost the same as for an adult. However, as a child, you have additional rights:
- You have the right to get a representative in Norway. A representative is an adult who acts on your behalf since you are unaccompanied. The representative looks after your rights in Norway, both legally and financially
- You will also be appointed a lawyer
- You will be offered an age examination if the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) doubts whether you are below the age of 18. An age examination is made up of two parts: an X-ray of your hand and your teeth. A doctor will look at these X-rays and evaluate your age
- If you do not wish to undergo an age examination, it may affect your asylum case
