Kindergarten, primary and secondary education

Who can access education in Morocco?

In Morocco, access to the public school system is granted to all children, regardless of nationality and migratory status.   This means that refugee children have access to public education on the same basis as Moroccan children.

Does UNHCR have an education program for refugees?

Kindergarten: children are welcome to attend the nursery school in Rabat managed by UNHCR partner FOO or they can be supported to enrol in nursery schools in other cities.

Primary and secondary education: children are enrolled directly in primary and secondary public schools. Fondation Orient Occident, UNHCR’s partner can assist parents in the process if required. The education program also includes the monitoring results and academic support for children. This is provided by the FOO education officers in the field.

Can I get financial assistance for education?

Although public schooling is free in Morocco, UNHCR provides additional financial assistance (conditional financial assistance) to help parents cover costs related to schooling (school supplies, transport, food, etc.) through its partner, FOO.

To request financial assistance for education, you will need your UNHCR refugee document, the school registration certificate and previous educational transcripts (if any).

For any assistance related to education, Education officers of the FOO can be contacted at the following numbers:
