Before starting your naturalization process, make sure that all your information is up to date with the INM. If your information is not updated, your application could be affected.
To apply for naturalization, you must be 18 years old and meet the following requirements:
1. Time of residence in Mexico
- 2 years if you are from a Latin American country or from the Iberian Peninsula.
- 5 years if you are from another country or if you are stateless.
- In both cases, starting from the issuance of permanent residence.
2. Documents
- Completed Naturalization Certificate Request
- Download it from the SRE Procedures Portal.
- COMAR Refugee Recognition Certificate.
- Permanent resident card.
- Birth certificate.
- If you do not have it, submit the COMAR Refugee Recognition Certificate.
- Original passport (with at least 6 months of validity) or Identity and Travel Document (DIV).
- If your passport or DIV was issued less than 2 years ago, request the Migration Flows document from INM.
- Federal and local criminal background checks.
- Proof of payment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3. Exams
- Mexican History exam (only for people with complementary protection or stateless persons).
- Refugees do not need to take this exam.
- Spanish exam if Spanish is not spoken in your country of origin.

- Schedule your appointment through the SRE Procedures Portal.
- Complete your pre‑registration: Enter your information in the Integrated Nationality and Naturalization System (SINNA).
- Choose the date for your appointment.
