Requirements

Before starting your naturalization process, your CURP must be valid and up to date and make sure that all your information is up to date with the INM. If your information is not updated, your application could be affected.

To apply for naturalization, you must be 18 years old and meet the following requirements:

1. Time of residence in Mexico

  • 2 years if you are from a Latin American country or from the Iberian Peninsula.
  • 5 years if you are from another country or if you are stateless.
    • In both cases, starting from the issuance of permanent residence.

2. Documents

  • Permanent resident card.
  • Naturalization Application Form SRE-02-011 duly completed.
  • COMAR recommendation letter.
    • Requirement only for refugees.
  • Birth Certificate with apostille and legalization.
    • Requirement only for persons with complementary protection or stateless persons.
  • Passport or Identity and Travel Document (DIV) (with at least 45 days of validity remaining).
    • If your passport or DIV was issued less than 2 years ago, request your Migration Movements Record from the INM.
  • Federal Criminal Record Certificate and its certification.
  • Local Criminal Record Certificate.
  • Proof of payment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

✅ If you already meet all the requirements:

  • Schedule your appointment through the SRE Procedures Portal.
  • Complete your pre‑registration: Enter your information in the Integrated Nationality and Naturalization System (SINNA).
  • Choose the date for your appointment.
  • Print your appointment confirmation and bring it with you on the day of your appointment.

Examinations

The following examinations are administered on the day of your appointment:

  1. Mexican History
    • Requirement only for persons with complementary protection or stateless persons.
    • Refugees, persons over 60 years of age, and minors are exempt from this examination.
  2. Spanish Language, only if Spanish is not spoken in your country.
