The community centre promotes and supports community-based protection and self-management activities by community that are implemented by partner in consultation with the community, related to strengthening their capacities, skills and priorities. Community activities supported by the community centre volunteers and UNHCR partner will encourage participation from all the population groups in activities that benefit the community overall and empower community members to be active within their community, so as to strengthen social cohesion, peaceful co-existence, and an active and participatory community life promoting inclusion of all ages, genders and diversities.

• Educational activities: Regularly informal language and other classes Kurdish/English classes,

• Handy craft activities: such as knitting, handmade, recycling materials, arts programming, arts performances and exhibitions, and workshops.

• Regular awareness raising sessions: tailored to community needs and information gap are conducted throughout the month.

• Provision of information and information sessions on relevant topics: legal counselling, access to education and support on school enrolment, access to health care, employment assistance, support with administrative issues, etc. [indicate any other information the center may offer in lieu of awareness raising.

• Parenting skills: tailored sessions to parents regarding children academic year, learning Sorani accent, support children, behavior of children and etc.

The current community centre of Kawergosk (KWG) camp is a safe space that aims to foster social cohesion, peaceful co-existence, and the creation of a shared social fabric between the community in the camp and (host community, and Syrian Asylum seekers/refugees) residing of Kawergosk district. The aim beyond the community center is to to have a very friendly, safe environment and space for the camp and out of camp population especially Women, elderly, PWDS, Youth and etc.

The community centre promotes and supports community-based protection and self-management activities by community that are implemented by partner in consultation with the community, related to strengthening their capacities, skills and priorities. Community activities supported by the community centre Volunteers and UNHCR partner will encourage participation from all the population groups in activities that benefit the community overall and empower community members to be active within their community, so as to strengthen social cohesion, peaceful co-existence, and an active and participatory community life promoting inclusion of all ages, genders and diversities.

Additionally you can find below activities that are taken place in the CC currently;

  • Recreational/ entertainment activities Focusing on entertainment activities such as fisha, ping-pong, Mhebs, Zomba, etc.
  • Educational activities: Regularly informal language and other classes Kurdish/English classes,
  • Handy craft activities: such as knitting, handmade, recycling materials, arts programming, arts performances and exhibitions, and workshops.
  • Regular awareness raising sessions: tailored to community needs and information gap are conducted throughout the month.
  • Provision of information and information sessions on relevant topics: legal counselling, access to education and support on school enrolment, access to health care, employment assistance, support with administrative issues, etc. [indicate any other information the center may offer in lieu of awareness raising.
  • Parenting skills: tailored sessions to parents regarding children academic year, learning Sorani accent, support children, behavior of children and etc.
  • Awareness raising and empowerment programs: Community support programme focusing on women, girls, elderly, youth, PWDS and etc.
  • Request for activities/ information about awareness sessions: please approach help desk at the community center personnel’s (team leader, deputy team leader) / COVs.
  • Sport activities: All kind of sport activities such football, volleyball, tennis, and organizing tournaments accordingly.

•              Peaceful & Co-exitance activities: This is more focused on activities among all community members and outside communities of camps, such as Syrian refugees and Iranian refugees, IDPs and host community, refugees and IDPs. The activities are cooking traditional foods, learning different cultures from elderly people, etc.
