UNHCR Iran supports the Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MoHME) in providing free Primary Health Care services to all refugees, similar to services provided to Iranian nationals. These services include vaccinations, antenatal care, maternal and child health, provision of essential medicine, and family planning in health posts country-wide. It is understood that all primary healthcare is free of charge for all foreign nationals, regardless of documentation status.
UNHCR, through a partnership agreement with BAFIA and the Iran Health Insurance Organization (IHIO), supports the Universal Public Health Insurance (UPHI), which is a national health insurance scheme that is available to Amayesh and Hoviat cardholders. UNHCR covers the premium fee and provides the Universal Public Health Insurance scheme for free to a limited group of refugees, based on BAFIAs vulnerability screening during the annual Amayesh re-enrolment exercise. Other refugees are able to enroll in the scheme by paying the premium fee themselves. You can read more about the UPHI scheme, and how to enroll, here.
