UNHCR Central Asia – Help for refugees, asylum-seekers and stateless people

All services, support, and assistance provided by UNHCR and its partners are always free of charge.

This is the official UNHCR website. You should never be asked to pay money, provide favors, or offer services in exchange for assistance from UNHCR or its partners, including via social media or third parties.

This website provides useful information on key topics for refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless people residing in Central Asia: Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

UNHCR’s role in Central Asia focuses on supporting the Governments of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan to ensure quality asylum procedures, to prevent new cases of statelessness and help protect the rights of refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless people in line with international law and standards. UNHCR helps refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless people by working with partners to provide social support, legal counselling, and representation.

Please note: UNHCR offices in Central Asia do not register refugees, do not examine asylum applications, and do not issue refugee documents. The Central Asian governments handle these responsibilities.
