LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Queer, Intersex or Asexual)
The struggle and mobilization of the LGBTQIA+ community have resulted in important advances in recent years, such as the creation of the National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD / LGBT) and the recognition by the Supreme Court (STF) of stable same-sex unions. However, we still face many challenges to ensure full citizenship for all.
In cases of LGBTQIA-phobic violence, you can contact:
- The Human Rights Violation Hotline (dial: 100), or you can file a complaint through the site by filling out an online form;
- Partner organizations dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ cause. You can find them on the Map of Community and Service Networks for LGBTQIA+ Refugees and Migrants in the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima, São Paulo and Santa Catarina.
- Go to a police station (some stations specialize in hate crimes, but you need to check the website of your state’s police station to find out where the closest one is to you);
- Look for the Federal Public Defender’s Office.
For more information, please refer to the section on safety or access our booklet on the rights of LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers and refugees.
