How to get to Brazil?
Attention! Use only official channels. Be aware of third parties or “facilitators” who charge to expedite the process. The use of false documents or irregular entry can lead to serious problems, both when leaving Haiti and when entering Brazil.
Humanitarian Visas
Since December 2025, the issuance of humanitarian visas for Haitians has been contingent upon support from community sponsors and proof of accommodation capacity in Brazil. Currently, there are no organizations authorized for this process, and further information is expected to be released soon by the Brazilian government.
It is important to note that UNHCR is not involved in the decisions or issuance of humanitarian visas.
Family Reunification Visa for Haitians
The rules for issuing electronic visas to Haitians with family ties in Brazil remain in effect until 30 June 2026.
Who can apply for the visa?
The visa is available exclusively to family members of Haitians who have already applied for prior residency authorization for family reunification purposes, but who – for some reason – have not yet obtained the visa.
How does the process work?
The visa application and issuance procedure is entirely electronic and carried out through an online platform.
The application must be made by the applicant themselves, who is currently in Haiti.
The process is free: there are no fees or fines, and both the visa and registration in Brazil are free of charge. The validity of the visa will be confirmed via a QR code.
Required documents
To apply for the visa, it is necessary to submit:
- Digital copy of passport pages
- Recent photo
- In the case of children, authorization from parents or legal guardians.
If you are seeking international protection, it is possible to enter Brazil and apply for refugee status even without complete documentation, provided that the situation is explained transparently to the Brazilian authorities upon arrival.
Upon arrival in Brazil
Persons holding a family reunification visa must also present themselves to the Federal Police within a maximum period of 90 (ninety) days to request their documentation in Brazil.
