
UNHCR is pleased to announce the UNICORE 7.0 scholarship program, offering an exceptional opportunity for refugee students residing in South Africa to pursue a Master’s degree in Italy. This initiative is supported by UNHCR, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and a network of 37 prestigious Italian universities and partner organizations.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
- Eligibility: Refugee students residing in South Africa with a recognized refugee status or Section 24.
- Scholarship Coverage: The selected candidates will be exempted from tuition fees, receive financial support for travel expenses, and be granted a study allowance during their stay in Italy.
- Application Period: Italian universities have opened the call for applications from 3 March 2025.
- Application Documents: Applicants will need to submit key documents such as proof of refugee status, academic transcripts, CV, motivation letter, and any additional documents required by the selected universities.

PRE-SELECTION CRITERIA INCLUDE
- Residency in South Africa with recognized refugee status.
- Holding a bachelor’s degree obtained in or after 2019, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).
- Candidates may apply to a maximum of two universities.
- Evaluation by an international panel based on CV, motivation letters, videos (if required), and an interview.
