UNHCR calls for the release of refugees and asylum-seekers held in detention. Given the urgent humanitarian needs, UNHCR provides life-saving humanitarian assistance to the persons held in detention, while advocating for the release of those in need of international protection.
UNHCR advocates for the release of all refugees and asylum-seekers from detention. UNHCR undertakes visits to official detention centres which fall under the jurisdiction of the Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM).
At the detention centers, UNHCR and its partners provide lifesaving assistance, including the distribution of hygiene kits and other core relief items and when it is highly needed refreshments.
UNHCR does not undertake registration activities in detention centers. However, UNHCR will advocate for your release and upon release you will be referred to the UNHCR’s registration center and will be given a registration appointment.

UNHCR undertakes visits to official detention centres which fall under the jurisdiction of the Directorate for Combatting Illegal Migration (DCIM) in order to verify the people UNHCR serves. If/when UNHCR locates your relative, and if your relative gives his/her consent, you will be contacted.
