Have you recently arrived in Iran?

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran (GIRI), through the Center for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants’ Affairs (CAFIA) and the Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrant Affairs (BAFIA), is responsible for registering foreign nationals and determining refugee status.

If you have newly arrived in Iran, you may wish to approach your local BAFIA office for further information.

UNHCR Iran does neither conduct registration, decide whether someone is a refugee nor issue documentation – this is the responsibility of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Please note that UNHCR Iran does NOT accept applications for resettlement.

UNHCR does NOT make referrals to the programmes announced by different countries to relocate or evacuate Afghan nationals. All information and applications for these relocation or evacuation programmes must be done directly with the relevant embassies through their contact details and procedures.
