It is your duty to respect and abide by the laws and regulations of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Avoid mass gatherings and overcrowded areas to minimize the risk of arrest, detention, and deportation. In case of court conviction, you may face additional penalties, including deportation or other legal consequences as decided by the courts.
Carry your identification documentation:
You must ensure that your identification document issued by the Iranian authorities (e.g., Amayesh card, Hoviat card, Headcount slip, Smart Card) or valid passport with a visa, is with you all the time, in case If you are asked to show your identity document by the law enforcement authority. Be aware that you can approach UNHCR offices nearest to your place of residence (Contact UNHCR offices) for free of charge legal support and consultation. (Legal Services)
Avoid unauthorized movements:
If you are recognized as a refugee in Iran (e.g., Amayesh Card holders/smart card ID), returning to your country of origin or traveling to other countries without authorization may result in losing your refugee status. If you wish to travel, you must first contact the local BAFIA offices to obtain permission. Failing to do so may lead to a loss of your documentation status. Traveling to areas other than the area of your residence (as indicated in your documentation) without authorization and movement and residence in prohibited areas for foreign nationals can result in you losing your status, putting you at risk of arrest, detention, and deportation.
Register personal records:
It is highly recommended to register personal records (e.g. birth, death, marriage -both temporary and permanent- or divorce) as soon as possible. This is important for your legal stay in Iran and for accessing rights and services.
