Health services provided:
COMMUNITY HEALTH
Through refugees health volunteers in your area, who provide you with the following services:
- Disseminate and share information for health promotion and disease prevention,
- Answer your questions related to UNHCR supported health services and health problems,
- Orient you to health services in your area especially in cases of emergency.
- Convey your complaints related to health services to UNHCR.
- Ensure access of the most vulnerable to health services.
- Facilitate refugees engagement and contribution to individual, family and community health.
You can ask any of the volunteers in your community for their names and contact details.
PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICES
Primary health care services are offered through UNHCR partners in the below mentioned locations.
The service include :
- Medical consultations in internal medicine clinics, pediatric clinic, obstetric& gynecology clinic, and ophthalmology clinic. this should cover communicable and non-communicable diseases (chronic) including MHPSS , reproductive health /maternal and child health.
- Basic laboratory tests
- Imaging services : Echo and simple x ray,
- Medicine services. For selected basic list of medicines.
- Dental services : for basic dental care: extraction, filling and gum treatment.
Note: Vaccination services for children are exclusively offered in the public primary health care facilities free of charge.
Primary health care services in partners facilities are free of charge for one visit for an individual a month. The visit can include medical consultations, laboratory, imaging and medicine services.
Primary health care partners’ facilities are opened 8.30- 14.30 daily from Sunday to Thursday,

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES
Reproductive health services are part of the package of primary health care services offered by partners clinics and include : pre and post natal visits and care, referral for delivery, family planning services, screening for early detection of breast and cervical cancer, and management of sexually transmitted diseases.
Same package is offered for free by Syrian family planning association clinics in all governorates.
UNHCR does not support infertility treatments.
UNHCR supports by 85% the delivery of pregnant refugee and asylum seekers women. Same is for the delivery of wives of refugees regardless of their status and nationality in partner/contracted hospitals.
SECONDARY AND TERTIARY HEALTH CARE SERVICES
If you’re in need for more advanced health care, the physician in any of the primary health care facility of the partner can refer you to one of the contracted /partner hospitals or specialized medical centers. UNHCR will cover 85% of the cost of care.
The refugee will pay 100% of the cost of care IF seeking care in hospitals directly by him/herself referral without a referral issued by the primary health care facility.
Hospital services include : medical and surgical intervention on an inpatient and outpatient basis, advanced laboratory tests and imaging services such as CT and MRI. Services cover all specialty areas including oncology, orthopedic and cardiac treatments, critical care and emergency services.
Emergency services are available in all public hospitals for free up to the stabilization stage.
If , in emergency cases, you had to be admitted to the nearest hospital without obtaining a referral, do please contact UNHCR office health focal point or the health volunteer in your area within 48 hours max to ensure follow up of your case and potential reimbursement of cost of care.
If the cost of care is high, your case need to be submitted by the partner to the “ Medical referral committee “ in UNHCR for their approval before providing the service.

Noting that none of these hospitals could be approached directly by the refugee. A referral slip from partner’s physicians should be obtained first to ensure cost coverage.
