UNHCR Syria is updating its registration records and data of all refugees and asylum-seekers registered with us.
Why?
UNHCR regularly reviews its data of refugees and asylum-seekers to ensure that they are up to date. This enables UNHCR to plan and implement its activities and programmes effectively.
What will happen?
On 30th of November 2025, UNHCR Syria will inactivate all refugees and asylum-seekers with UNHCR ID cards that are expired on or before 31 July 2025.
What will happen if my record is inactivated?
Once your record is inactivated you will not be able to receive assistance from UNHCR, including cash assistance (if you are eligible)..
What should I do if my ID card is expired?
If your UNHCR ID card is expired for 3 or more months, please approach the UNHCR office nearest to you, or call the numbers below, and you will be given an appointment to renew your ID card.
My ID card is expired but not for 3 months
Only those with ID cards that expired 3 or more months ago will be inactivated on 30th of November 2025. However, you are still encouraged to contact UNHCR offices to renew your ID card as you might be inactivated in future exercises if your card is still expired.
My ID card is valid but those of my family members are expired
Only individuals with expired ID cards will be affected. If your ID card is valid, your record will remain active, but your family members’ records will be inactivated.
My ID card expired before 2025 and has not been renewed to date
Please contact your UNHCR office for information on your individual case.
If my record is inactivated in November, can I renew my ID card in the future?
Yes, your record can be activated after an assessment of your case by UNHCR staff. However, you are encouraged not to wait until your record is inactivated as there might be delays in activating your case, and you might miss out on services and assistance during that period.
I am not able to renew my ID card because I have some specific needs or challenges
Please contact the nearest UNHCR office and inform them of your specific circumstances and they will advise you accordingly.
REMEMBER:
All services offered by UNHCR are offered free of charge.
Report all forms of corruption and fraud to the Inspector General’s Office (IGO) through email: [email protected] or to our Anti-Fraud Focal Persons at [email protected] or to any other trusted UNHCR staff.

UNHCR Syria is currently verifying and updating its records to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive the assistance they are entitled to.
Some of our eligible beneficiaries do not yet have a valid identification document number in UNHCR’s record, which is required for cash distribution.
To complete information of such eligible beneficiaries, UNHCR will be sending them an electronic form via WhatsApp from our official number (+41223550561).
This form will ask for personal data of the eligible beneficiaries to verify their identity and update essential information.
UNHCR assures you that this process is official, genuine, and secure. Your personal data will be handled confidentially and used solely to ensure you receive the assistance you are entitled to.
For more details on how your data is protected, please check UNHCR privacy notice : https://help.unhcr.org/syria/unhcr-privacy-notice/
If you receive such a message on WhatsApp and have any doubts, please contact us through our official Help Page to confirm.
