Right to stay

You can stay in Switzerland during the asylum procedure (N permit), once asylum has been granted (B permit) or if you have been provisionally (F permit) admitted.

➡️If you are a recognized refugee (B permit), your residence permit is initially valid for one year but is usually renewed by the canton of residence as long as the grounds for your refugee status continue to exist.

➡️If you are a temporarily admitted refugee (refugee F permit) or a temporarily admitted person (foreigner F permit), your residence permit is usually issued for a maximum of twelve months and may be renewed by the canton of residence for a further twelve months. After you have legally resided in Switzerland for five years, you can apply for a B permit under certain conditions.

➡️After legally residing in Switzerland for ten years with a B permit, you can apply for a C permit (settlement permit) under certain conditions. In certain cases, five years of legal residence are sufficient if a successful integration can be proven.

➡️However, if your asylum application is rejected, you will receive a removal order and you have to leave Switzerland as soon as possible by your own means. If you fail to comply with this obligation, you will be considered an illegal resident of Switzerland and may be forced to leave the country.
