Everyone in Switzerland has the right to medical care. Emergency medical services are available to anyone who needs them, including those who have not yet applied for asylum or do not have health insurance. The public authorities will cover the costs.
Everyone living in Switzerland must have health and accident insurance. This basic insurance coverage is compulsory for everyone, regardless of their age, origin or residence status.
➡️If you hold a N permit or a F permit, the process of obtaining a health insurance will be managed by the authorities directly. The costs will be covered by the cantonal social welfare system of the canton in which you reside.
➡️If you are a recognized refugee (B permit), you are required to arrange your own health insurance within three months of receiving your B permit. However, if you cannot afford the cost of health insurance, you can apply for a subsidy from your canton of residence.
Compulsory health insurance covers basic medical care, including psychological care.
