Are registration and documentation services currently active?
Commissioner for Refugees (COR) and UNHCR are conducting registration and documentation services in the states where the security situation permits including in Shagarab Camp, Kassala State and to some extent in Gedaref.
Please keep your identification documents safe as they could be required during registration and interviews. While contacting COR or UNHCR in person or over the phone, please note your individual number or household number indicated on the documents issued to you during registration; if unregistered, details in Birth Certificates, National ID Card, Passports, School enrollment letters, Marriage Certificate and other civil documents could be requested.
In several other areas, no registration or documentation activities are in place, individuals moving into other states could report their presence at the nearest UNHCR or COR office, to support planning responses when security situation allows.
How can I get cash assistance from UNHCR?
Please note that eligibility for cash assistance is determined according to different social and economic conditions. Please keep your nearest UNHCR office updated of your situation through the hotlines, although it will not guarantee that you will receive cash support.

How can I get food assistance?
UNHCR is closely working with WFP and partners to find ways for persons to safely access food assistance. Due to challenges related to accessibility, WFP is encountering difficulties in delivering food assistance. Please note that, as per WFP policy, retrospective food provision is not practiced, and assistance is provided to the registered refugees only. Forcibly Displaced Persons will be informed on changes in food ration if any through the committees.
If you are in the camps and settlements, you will be informed of distribution dates.
14. How can I access medical, Nutrition and Psycho-social services?
If you are in a refugee camp in Kassala, Gedaref states, you can access primary health services at the various health facilities in the camps and referrals to secondary health care through UNHCR-supported partners. To refugees residing in Gedaref town among other non-camp settings, are informed that due to the encampment policy in the country, all services are in the camps, hence encouraged to move to the camps for security and other services.
Nutrition screening and supplementary feeding program is available for children under 5 years that are moderately malnourished, pregnant and lactating women. The Therapeutic feeding program is also available at designated health facilities for children under 5 years with severe acute malnutrition especially in Gedaref, Kassala States. Stabilization Centers are also available in Gedaref and Kassala for treatment of children with severe acute malnutrition plus medical complications. Services can be accessed at various nutrition sites in the health facilities in the camps.
People with chronic medical conditions can also access services at the various health facilities in the camps or at referral sites. The health partners in various camps and states will provide the services and make necessary referrals as need be.
All Pregnant women are encouraged to attend early antenatal care at the facility and deliver or give birth at the health facility by a trained health care worker. Likewise, all children from birth to 1 year old should be taken to the health facility for regular immunization/vaccination based on the scheduled date.
