What is sexual exploitation?
This is the actual or attempted abuse of a position of vulnerability, power or trust for sexual purposes.
What is sexual abuse?
It is any sexual act, real or threatened, carried out by force or under unequal or coercive conditions.
It is strictly forbidden for UNHCR, UN and NGO partner staff to:
- Engaging in sexual activity with a person under the age of 18
- Engaging in sexual activity with anyone in exchange for money, employment, preferential treatment, goods or services
- Engage in any other form of sexually humiliating, degrading or exploitative behavior
- Sexual exploitation and abuse are strictly unacceptable and prohibited
Report sexual exploitation and abuse
You can report suspected sexual exploitation or abuse to either the UNHCR Multi-country Senegal Office or directly to the Inspector General’s Office (IGO) :

If you are reporting suspected sexual exploitation or abuse, please include:
- What happened? Describe in detail what you know about the incident(s).
- Who committed the alleged wrongdoing?
- Do you know if anyone else was involved? Please provide full names, job titles and organization, if possible.
- When and where did the incident(s) occur? Please include dates and times, if possible.
- Your report will be treated with discretion and will remain strictly confidential
