About UNHCR in Czechia

UNHCR is the UN specialized agency for refugees. It aims to protect people who have been forced to leave their homes because of conflict and persecution.
It provides vital assistance in the form of shelter, food, and water. It advocates respect for fundamental human rights and seeks solutions to help displaced people find a safe haven and a better future.
UNHCR works in more than 130 countries. Globally, it contributes to the protection and assistance of millions of people and is at the forefront of international efforts to protect refugees, forcibly displaced and stateless people.
UNHCR has been working in Czechia since 1992. It works closely with the government and other state actors, local NGOs, and other specialized UN agencies to ensure favourable conditions for refugees from Ukraine and other countries.
UNHCR in Czechia cooperates with seven local NGOs to improve the welfare of refugees. UNHCR’s partners include AMIGA, La Strada, Organization for Refugee Assistance (OPU), proFem, Romodrom, Association for Integration and Migration (SIMI), and Slovo 21. See the description of their activities here.
