What is Resettlement?
Resettlement is the selection and transfer of refugees from the State in which they have sought protection to a third country that has agreed to admit them as permanent residents.
UNHCR is aware that many refugees face a very difficult situation and would like to be resettled to another country. However, UNHCR does not implement resettlement programmes in Central Asia. Any relocation to third countries takes place through private sponsorship schemes independently operated by various host countries. Decision of who is accepted for resettlement is taken by resettlement countries, not UNHCR.
However, if you are facing serious risks and/or vulnerabilities that you believe require support from UNHCR or one of our partners, you may contact your local UNHCR office.
Do not believe fraudulent information you may read on social media about UNHCR services. For updates always refer to the official UNHCR Central Asia Help page website.
