UNHCR is concerned about Coronavirus affecting the situation of refugees, asylum-seekers, displaced and stateless people. While UNHCR continues to provide critical protection services and assistance to refugees and asylum-seekers in urgent need, some of UNHCR activities in Somalia have been temporarily suspended in order to mitigate the risk of contracting or spreading the virus. Currently, Refugee Status Determination and Resettlement interviews are conducted remotely.
In order to prevent further spread of the virus, UNHCR strongly recommends you follow the guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Authorities to protect yourself as well as others. Those are:
Wear a facemask over your mouth and nose when in public, wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap or use hand sanitizer at least, avoid crowded places and close contact with anyone who has cold or flu-like symptoms.
If you or your family member suspect having COVID-19, stay home if you develop symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of smell and/or taste. Keep your distance from others in your family and isolate for 10 days, using different towels and utensils with complete social distancing measures in place.
