About UNHCR in Iceland

All information and services provided by UNHCR and our partners are FREE OF CHARGE for temporary protection beneficiaries, asylum-seekers, refugees, beneficiaries of subsidiary protection and stateless persons.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, protects people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution.  We save lives, protect rights and help build better futures.

In Iceland, UNHCR supports the national authorities in executing its duties in line with international and European standards. UNHCR is not part of the asylum procedure in Iceland. The asylum procedure in Iceland is under the responsibility of the Directorate of Immigration.

UNHCR in Iceland is part of UNHCR’s Representation for the Nordic and Baltic Countries, based in Stockholm (Sweden).
