Who are we?
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is a non-political humanitarian agency established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1950. Since then, we have been working to ensure that all people who have been forced to flee their homes due to violence, persecution, war or disaster have the right to seek protection and find a safe place.
What do we do?
Our agency is mandated to protect the rights of and assist refugees worldwide through durable solutions. We also help save lives and build a better future for refugees, asylum-seekers, stateless persons, returnees and others at high risk. Through a community protection approach, we contribute to strengthening the leadership and capacities of refugees and host communities.
